On Sunday 7, Grenadians home and abroad donned their brightest outfits for the 42nd Anniversary of Grenada’s Independence. Hues of red, green and gold filled the stadium for the military parade and cultural display.
The crowd was awestruck by the impressive coordination of the Battalion’s, Officers and Cadets who impressed with their preened uniforms and formations. Onlookers were fixated on the expertly executed parade, which showed dedication to weeks of practice.

Visitors also basked in national pride at the Made in Grenada Expo, where over fifty manufacturers displayed locally made confectionery and craft. We couldn’t have been more excited to play host to the finale of the Buy Local and Made in Grenada Campaign, which kicked off in early January. The campaign urges more Grenadians to support local manufacturers, products and services, in a bid to increase the appreciation and awareness of our local industry.
This years theme was ‘Striving towards Our Destiny with Faith and Courage as One People’. The positive response from Grenadians on the opening day of our new athletic and football stadium, with a seating capacity of nearly 8000 was heartwarming.
Seeing the grounds filled with joy and laughter once again after the destruction of Hurricane Ivan added to the motivation of all those involved in the planning process. Witnessing our Olympic Gold champion Kirani James performing the ceremonial lighting of the torch, alongside our talented soca artistes, performers, officials, was the icing on the cake of this 22 month project undergone by Chinese and Grenadian labourers.
